Walk through the exhibition with a distance

02.07.2020

Keeping distance is the order of the day. 1.50 meters, wherever possible. When shopping, on the bus and also in many museums, a mouth and nose protector must be worn. These and all kinds of other safety precautions are in force. Organising guided tours is a very special challenge under these circumstances. However, an exhibition without in-depth expertise, which is presented in an appealing way, is only worth half the price.

New rules as an opportunity

Even though guided tours for groups can now be offered again, the challenges are enormous. Simply going into a museum, paying and exploring the exhibition with your own smartphone or a loaner device - in many places that is not possible. "Common rules of hygiene and distance apply", "Masks are compulsory and distance rules apply in museums as well", "Participants must wear a mouth and nose protector and provide their contact details" - these rules apply to some of the museums and visitor centres where our multimedia guide Dorengo is used.

So what to do? Is there a way to cleverly combine the rules to limit the corona pandemic with a regulated, maybe even digitally enhanced tour?

Simple added value

As an expert in the NFC field, tuomi has developed the exhibition guide Dorengo. Why, for example, the Pfalzmuseum Bad Dürkheim chose the NFC guide from tuomi was explained in detail by museum director Dr. Wieland in an interview.

With the practical devices from tuomi extend the tour digitally, create attention and integrate additional elements.

In many federal states it is necessary to record the data of visitors to guided tours. Lists are often kept for this purpose. This not only leads to practical problems - storage, illegible handwriting, DSGVO-compliant destruction - but is also not a good start to a museum visit. A digital solution could help here and combine the pleasant with the useful: Every participant receives a tablet that can be controlled by the guide. Before the tablet can be used, the participant data must be entered. This ensures that everyone has really signed. The big advantage of the tuomi solution for guided tours: The guide can control all devices and display pictures, for example. Nevertheless, all visitors still get a successful insight.

Query learning progress

Getting children and school classes interested in the museum is a very special challenge. Dorengo offers many tools to present the exhibits in the best light in a variety of ways. The exhibits can be viewed large and detailed without crowding in front of the showcases. Animations, reconstructions and comparative illustrations can also be used to explain how they work. Quiz questions not only provide a lot of fun, but also increase attention and deepen the newly learned in a playful way. At the end, the quiz king or quiz queen can be celebrated.

A very special highlight are guided tours by children for children. Optimally staged by Dorengo, for example in the Bauhaus Workshop Museum Dornburg: Link to the MDR television report.
