Midjourney V7 Alpha: A new Standard for AI generated Art

Today, Midjourney announced the alpha version of its new V7 update – and expectations are high. The world of artificial intelligence already features impressive tools, but Midjourney once again seems to prove that not only good, but exceptionally brilliant AIs exist.
To test the new capabilities of V7 Alpha, we tried a series of different prompts and compared the results with other well-known AI tools such as
Reve andFlux.1.
Our conclusion: Midjourney sets new standards in terms of artistic aesthetics and the precise execution of complex requirements.

Woman in Mongolia on horseback with eagle on her shoulder
A prompt requiring multiple elements to be arranged in a clear relationship. Flux places the eagle with folded wings oddly floating in the air, while Reve depicts the scene as intended. Midjourney , on the other hand, delivers a realistic and harmonious image: the eagle sits majestically on the woman’s shoulder as she maintains a proud posture on her horse. Only the eagle’s eye appears slightly unnatural — a minor critique of an otherwise impressive result.

Concept Art of a Submarine
For technical subjects like a Russian submarine, Reve and Flux deliver solid, functional, and accurate representations. Midjourney, however, transforms the prompt into a true work of art: the textures resemble professional concept art. This demonstrates that Midjourney not only depicts but also interprets and enhances the subject.
David Bowie Portrait
This prompt was a real challenge: a portrait of David Bowie combining styles such as paper cutout, abstract expressionism, mosaic textures, geometric shapes, and a dark background with vibrant colors. Reve and Flux struggle with the complexity — their results appear chaotic or incomplete. Midjourney, however, handles the task brilliantly: the portrait is not only recognizable but also a striking artistic statement, capturing Bowie’s essence in a layered, stylized form.

Exhibition stand
There was a surprise with the prompt for an exhibition stand. Midjourney delivers an impressive composition of shapes, colors, and perspectives — an aesthetically striking overall image that immediately catches the eye. However, two flaws are noticeable: the faces of the people depicted appear distorted and unnatural, and the requested text ‘Laduree’ is not rendered correctly. Here, Reve and Flux have the advantage, producing more realistic faces and significantly better typography, even if the overall composition is less artistic.

Reve and Flux impress with clear details and realistic depiction, while Midjourney adds an artistic touch. In this case, preference depends on the desired style — all three are successful in their own way.

Black-and-white picture of a woman
With this classic prompt, Midjourney’s strength is once again evident: the result is an artistic black-and-white image that plays with light and shadow, conveying emotional depth. Reve, on the other hand, produces an image that looks so realistic it could be a real photograph — highly detailed but without the artistic intent. Flux performs well too, but its artistic interpretation falls short of Midjourney, appearing more functional.

“A imaginative prompt that allows Midjourney to perform at its best: the result is stunning — a majestic Monkey King, richly detailed and radiating a powerful, almost mythical presence. Flux and Reve execute the prompt competently, featuring recognizable monkeys and royal attributes, but they lack the impressive artistic sophistication that Midjourney delivers here.

With V7 Alpha, Midjourney reinforces its reputation as a leading tool for artistic AI image generation. While Reve and Flux often deliver solid, functional results, Midjourney stands out for its ability not just to execute prompts, but to elevate them aesthetically. Its strength is particularly evident with complex scenes or stylistic demands. Flaws, such as distorted faces in the exhibition room, are noticeable but have little impact on the overall impression. For anyone looking to generate not just images but true artworks, Midjourney V7 Alpha is a milestone that once again leaves the competition behind.
